  1. It is a twin island nation located on the northern edge of continental South America. It lies south of Grenada, off the coast of Venezuela.

  3. It was previously a colony of Spain after being claimed for Spanish crown by Christopher Columbus in 1498.
  4. The country is a unitary parliamentary democracy with a president and a prime minister.
  5. Official language here is English, but Trinidadian Creole and Tobagonian Creole are generally recognized.
  6. Due to its large reserves of oil and gas, the country is one of the richest. It is also more industrial than its Caribbean peers.
  7. Trinidad and Tobago is synonymous with carnival. In this respect, the country is the birthplace of calypso, soca, limbo, steelpan, and chutney.
  8. The Amerindian name for the islands is 'Lere'. This is translated to mean 'Land of the Humming Bird'.
  9. Being more close to South America than Caribbean, its biodiversity is more similar to that of South America. Its ecosystems echo those of Venezuela.
  10. To get to the country, you can use Piarco International Airport which is graced by 19 airlines from different corners of the world.
