10 Things you probably didn’t know about Fiji but should

Apart from maybe Maldives, no other place can rank with Fiji in terms of natural beauty. The country is located in south Pacific, about 1,300 miles northeast of New Zealand.

The country is alone. It is solitary. It is thus the place you go when you want to get away from it all and rediscover yourself. You will love the silence. You will fall in love with the beaches and Fijian culture. Amazingly, you can have an island (or an islet) all to yourself. Below are some things you need to know about Fiji before making your trip there.

  1. The country has 332 islands, 110 of which are inhabited. It also has 500 islets.
  2. About 875 (860,000 people) live in the two main islands of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
  3. Tourism and Sugar industry are the economic mainstays of Fiji.
  4. The capital and largest city of Fiji is known as Suva and is found on Viti Levu Island.
  5. There are three official languages in the country; English, Fijian and Fijian Hindi.
  6. The country is a parliamentary democracy.
  7. Fiji's climate is tropical marine. Even the coldest season averages a temperature of about 21 degrees centigrade.
  8. Popular regions with vacationers include; Nadi, Coral Coast, Denarau Island, and Mamanuca Island.
  9. Popular Festivities in the country include; Diwali, Christmas, New Year's, Fiji Day among others.
  10. To get to Fiji, you can use; Nadi International Airport or Nausori International Airport. To get around the island, you can use the licensed LTA buses and taxi or the inter-island ferries.

Fiji is the sort of place you see on a postcard. It is idyllic, welcoming and panoramic. You are lucky indeed if you make it here.
